Missions
at Valley Hope Church
Faithful Presence in the Storm
Ryan and Amy Geist, members of Valley Hope Church and team leaders in Lifelines college ministry, tell the story of how their lives and their plans for college ministry in the Asheville area were washed away with Helene and how God is rebuilding all of it in a new way.
This is just one story of countless others in the wake of Helene.

What We're Doing Locally
There are many group and individual opportunities to live missionally in our community. Currently, we support ministries at Owen Middle School, Black Mountain Home for Children, Young Life/WyldLife, Alongside Families, as well as befriending and serving Afghan refugees. In addition to community schools, we look for opportunities to care for those around us whether it is meals and supplies for families in need or repairing and cleaning local facilities. Outside of activities organized by Valley Hope, many of our church members are involved in various outreaches such as yoga ministry, involvement in local schools and Hope for Tomorrow.
Ongoing Opportunities to Serve Locally
Help VHC Support At-Risk Families
Supporting at-risk families in crisis through Biblical hospitality in coordination with our local My Village Ministries leadership.
My Village Ministries equips churches like ours to facilitate gospel-centered family preservation.
- To provide family support and stabilization.
- To prevent childhood abuse and neglect.
- To prevent unnecessary foster care placements.
- To prevent, reduce, and repair childhood trauma.
- To provide holistic care.
We’re looking to build our Valley Hope team so that we can best serve the needs in our area. Our team will be ministering to families (many of which are single moms) in need of additional support to adequately care for their children (short term and longer term) that are vetted by the My Village Asheville team and assigned to / received by our team based on fit.
- Families in our local community.
- Ladies enrolled in the Hope for Tomorrow program in Black Mountain, part of the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry. We’ll be working with the team from Christ Community to serve the families in this program.
What are the roles in the team? Host Family, Community Coach, Community Friend, & Community Care work together to care for families and support each other in a sustainable way.
Who’s a good fit for serving in the roles? Families with a heart for foster care or adoption, empty nesters, families with the gift of hospitality as well as people who want to help families, parents, or kids in need or just be a friend to them. Some of the needs involve taking meals, driving people, and providing a few hours of childcare. We’ll work with potential host families to identify what children they’re a good fit for (age range, gender).

Have some flexible time during the day and love to be outside? Owen Middle would love our help taking care of their grounds- weeding, weed-eating, pruning, etc. It doesn't take much to make a big impact! Contact
OMS Clothing Closet ORGANIZERS NEEDED
Sara Silver is taking on this project and could use some other hands to help make this area look beautiful and approachable for students in need. As you know, middle school is a tender time and giving these needy students a place of dignity to "shop" is important. Contact
Community Nights at Owen Middle
We have an amazing opportunity to partner with Owen Middle and help at their Community Nights on Thursdays! It only requires 8 people (middle and high schoolers count).
*** Dinner is provided. Great for MCGs

What We're Doing Abroad
Ongoing Opportunities to Serve Globally
Adopt a Missionary
We are looking for some church members or MCGs to choose an international missionary to connect with and know how to pray for them. You will read their updates and can communicate with them through email or hand-written notes. You will serve as the liason between the missionary and the VHC missions team keeping the team up to date with prayer requests and practical needs of the missionary in the field. Contact the Missions Team if interested in being a part of this
