Welcoming the Stranger
Loving People Different Than You
7 Week Course
Sundays 9-10:30AM
March 8, 15, 22, 29
April 12, 19, 26
Join fellow followers of Jesus in this 7 week class on Sunday mornings as we discover together how to be an intentional neighbor and live in purposeful proximity to people who are different than you. How do we love like Jesus did today? This guide was created by World Relief to help people move towards action as an expression of their Christian faith. It is an experiential opportunity -- a chance to explore one of the most complex issues of our day from a biblical perspective and to live out the calling God has given his church.
Facilitated by Mark Semmler and Amy Berry.

Help VHC Support At-Risk Families
Supporting at-risk families in crisis through Biblical hospitality in coordination with our local My Village Ministries leadership.
My Village Ministries equips churches like ours to facilitate gospel-centered family preservation.
- To provide family support and stabilization.
- To prevent childhood abuse and neglect.
- To prevent unnecessary foster care placements.
- To prevent, reduce, and repair childhood trauma.
- To provide holistic care.
We’re looking to build our Valley Hope team so that we can best serve the needs in our area. Our team will be ministering to families (many of which are single moms) in need of additional support to adequately care for their children (short term and longer term) that are vetted by the My Village Asheville team and assigned to / received by our team based on fit.
- Families in our local community.
- Ladies enrolled in the Hope for Tomorrow program in Black Mountain, part of the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry. We’ll be working with the team from Christ Community to serve the families in this program.
What are the roles in the team? Host Family, Community Coach, Community Friend, & Community Care work together to care for families and support each other in a sustainable way.
Who’s a good fit for serving in the roles? Families with a heart for foster care or adoption, empty nesters, families with the gift of hospitality as well as people who want to help families, parents, or kids in need or just be a friend to them. Some of the needs involve taking meals, driving people, and providing a few hours of childcare. We’ll work with potential host families to identify what children they’re a good fit for (age range, gender).
Potentially interested in serving? Let one of Valley Hope’s Ministry Lead know: Stephen
In need of this type of support? When a family is facing a crisis that makes it difficult for them to care for their children, they can call the referral line, Linda Zink at 828-333-9520.

Other opportunities for women to connect will happen sporadically throughout each year.
